The Power of Ideas Conference

Project Overview

Converge fosters innovation emerging from Scotland’s Universities by empowering academic entrepreneurs to transform their ideas into thriving, sustainable and impactful businesses. With funding from the Ecosystem fund, Converge staged a one-day conference called “The Power of Ideas,” which platformed both home-grown and international speakers and highlighted how research and ideas can develop into transformative real-world solutions.

Billed as “an invitation to the curious, the innovators and all who seek inspiration to achieve a better world,” the event was attended by a diverse audience of Scottish founders, leaders, networkers, ecosystem representatives, policymakers and academics.

Speakers included prominent entrepreneurs based here and overseas (several of whom are alumni of the Converge programme), alongside noted academics forging innovative research in Scotland’s Universities today. The event concluded with an inspiring keynote address from Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock MBE, space scientist, broadcaster and author.

Impact

The conference successfully brought together diverse participants and created significant engagement:

  • 146 attendees from across the entrepreneurial and academic ecosystems
  • Generated over 13,000 impressions on social media
  • Created video content of the speakers to extend the reach beyond the event itself (Photos, highlights video and individual speaker sessions can be seen here
  • Provided a platform to foster an international outlook and global ambition for Scottish entrepreneurs
